RESIDENTIAL — LUXURY HOME FURNISHINGS —INTERIOR DECORATE

stellar supernova

Along the Oso Bay, a stellar supernova sits along the shoreline. This new-build posed many design opportunities as the project progressed. Coming in mid-way through the project, we selected flooring and other specific finishes, curated the entire home’s furniture, determined and provided some decorative lighting, selected quartz countertops within the entire home, furnished and selected all outdoor furniture, and even designed a custom faux-painting in the powder bathroom.

Entering the home, guests are greeted by a double-height space and two playful koi fish, painted by Jill Malouf. The selected polished porcelain flooring helps reflect light across the entire open layout. From the right of the foyer, a formal dining room and wine cellar peak through the visual. A grand Sonder Living chandelier grounds this space with a ten-person dining table. The formal living room, flooded with natural light by clerestory and large windows, continues with tall ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace. The play on woods from the dark walnut fireplace to medium oak coffee tables warms the neutral cream and beige space. Soft textures from the pillows and living chairs contrast the leather sectional.

The open kitchen sits between the informal living room, a large breakfast area, and the formal living room. The Cambria quartz embraces the space not only as a countertop, but also as the backsplash and the large island with a waterfall edge. The adjacent breakfast room table with rattan chairs looks out onto the bay with nearly floor to ceiling windows. Continuing into the informal living room, a color scheme of grays, creams, and browns neutralize this end of the home’s open layout.

Another room making a big impression is the powder bath. The metallic finishes mixed with the stone vanity create a richness in this custom design. One of our very own designers also created and faux painted the walls to create the “brick” effect.

The master bedroom continues the wood accents onto the ceiling while the rest of the room contains soft metallics and light colors. The custom-made bedding reflects the metal sideboard and sconces.

RESIDENTIAL — HOME RENOVATION — INTERIOR DESIGN

turn of the mid-century

Maintaining architectural integrity and honoring the original beauty of this neglected but amazing Mid Century home was the driving force for this renovation. The main design  challenge was opening the flow of the home while respecting the Mid Century elements that our clients (and we) love so much. Overall, this mid-century modern home asked for simple design aesthetics to complement the adjacent spaces.

Entering the home, you are graced by a midnight blue, organic patterned Zoffany wallpaper and wood console table. The client had the original sconces refinished and we added an organic round mirror for added texture. Setting the mood and turning into the space, a front living room and fireplace instantly bring a sense of warmth and comfort. At the other end of the front entry is a built-in that was re-finished. Paying homage to the mid-century use of cork, a powder bath envelops guests with cork flooring and a metallic cork York wallpaper. The door to this space was from the kitchen side which is a BIG NO NO to us. So we switched the door to enter from the living room side.

Formal Living Area (4).jpg

On the other end of the front entry is the main formal living room. This part of the house was the biggest design feat in the project. The entire room was lined with wood paneling from floor to ceiling. In order to keep the original integrity of the home, we decided to keep portions of the original wood paneling and use these items as accents in the room rather than being the entire room. We repurposed some of the zebra wood paneling to create a dramatic center point in the room while adding windows on either side to bring in some much needed light while opening the space to the backyard.

The kitchen was a complete renovation. In this design, we added an island and a peninsula with bar stools to create a better workspace and casual seating along with a bar area and drop zone.  New cabinets, quartz countertops, a glass backsplash and with sleek hardware and lighting helped to round out the minimal design elements. We continued with the cork flooring in this area to provide a much more comfortable material to stand on for our clients who love to cook. Finally, we used some open shelving which lends itself to a larger feel overall.

Another major renovation and design feat  that we are very proud of is in the master bathroom. We used every inch of space that we could find to create a walk in shower, a soaking tub, a private water closet and double sinks with ample storage. Given the location of the bathroom natural lighting was not an option. So we chose a polished white a grey tile that runs floor to ceiling while adding a giant mirror with fixtures mounted on the mirror. The LED bright lighting was added along with a dramatic dark blue vanity cabinet that we mounted in a way that makes it appear to “float” in the space. This kind of cabinet installation is ideal for small spaces as it makes the room feel more open. In the end, we were able to create a bathroom that our clients and the house deserve.

We could not have done all of this without  very trusting clients who were a big part of making the creative process come to light. This was truly a team effort that was very rewarding for us - and for our awesome clients.

RESIDENTIAL — HOME RENOVATION — INTERIOR DESIGN

goddess by the bay

Located near the Corpus Christi Bay, this unique home posed a fruitful set of challenges. Accenting the entry, updating a kitchen and half bath, improving closet space, and connecting the indoors to outdoors were all critical design points in this project.

The entryway is the equivalent of a visual first impression. A new paint color and replacing carpeted stairs with hardwood created a completely different room. To accentuate the height of the stairwell, a long, brass chandelier hangs from the center. Taking the design a step further, an iconic Kader art piece, the Goddess, graces the wall curvature with a 2-bar metal magnet system. Up the staircase, the entire second floor holds a durable cork flooring that replaced the existing carpet.

The outdated kitchen received a facelift with all new cabinetry, hardware, countertops, backsplash, and fixtures. All selected appliances are integrated within the kitchen cabinetry, creating a seamless look. Besides decorative finishes, the water heater was converted to a tankless system in order to add an accessible pantry space to the kitchen. The overall design objective was to balance the visual aesthetics of the room and connect it to the open-concept informal living and dining rooms. With new color selections and materials, the space inherently lightened compared to its original state.

From the kitchen, a new vantage point appears. By reducing and simplifying the custom cabinetry between the dining and informal living rooms, we visually connected the indoors to the outdoors. Integrating an operational TV into the new low-level cabinetry allowed for a viewpoint between the kitchen, informal living, dining room, and outdoor pool spaces. With a new spatially planned outdoor living room and custom outdoor furniture, we expanded the usable square footage of the home by adding livable outdoor space.

Master Bedroom (1).jpg

In the master bedroom, we transformed the walkway leading to the bedroom by lessening the width of the hallway and added a walk-in closet with a vanity.

The moody black powder bathroom just off of the kitchen also received new paint, countertop, mirror, and lighting and plumbing fixtures.
